We keep cows and their newborns separate from the herd whenever possible. This gives them a chance to bond and protects the young calf from being jostled and pushed around by overly enthusiastic and curious herdmates. The moms and calves stay in a corral near the house, so we can keep an eye on them. If all is well after two weeks, we let the cow back into the herd with her calf. It’s an exciting day for everyone.
